At our Wardrobe Therapy headquarters in New York, we recently came across an amusing article on the beauty secrets of the Italian woman.
Our Italian correspondent tells us which of these secrets are true, and dishes on Italian beauty rituals, the attitude towards life, and the art of being beautiful...
Here are 3 excerpts from the article, (Elle magazine), that as an Italian female, I can confirm are factual.
1. "they spent a full 15 minutes lovingly massaging body lotion over every inch of their tawny colored bodies..."
True. One of our main beauty secrets is to pamper ourselves. This can mean going regularly to the spa for facials, mani/pedis, or, simply slathering our body with good lotions at home.
2. "splashing freezing cold water on their face every morning."
Another truth - my mother has been doing this since childhood, and has beautiful skin today.
3. "We are much more obsessed with the quality of our clothes, food, and wine than a face cream."
Confirmed. We love feeling beautiful but it's not at an obsessive level that I see in other countries. We have a more effortless, natural approach, as (designer/stylist) Kelima says.
The final truth: we Italians are not crazy, just crazy about feeling beautiful, but most importantly, living life beautifully.
Always remember, tu sei bellissima (you are beautiful).
